End of the Semester

Howdy y'all!

Now that the semester is over, I would like to inform you that I will be graduating and moving on into the 'real' world. My time spent with Tennis Club will never be forgotten. From my first Wednesday night practice I remember walking on to the courts and seeing the mass of people crushing tennis balls. At that moment I was quite overwhelmed with the number of people that were there. I decided to stick with it and slowly began to meet people. This was the best decision I made here at A&M. The people in A&M Tennis Club made my experience great, and so 3 years later I decided to run for president so that I could serve a wonderful organization that provided me with entertainment, clean winner, lasting friendships, sectionals memories, and witnessing many many pegs and tweeners.

Moving forward, Matt Hillestad will be your president for the upcoming semester, and I have no doubt he will continue to help tennis club grow while maintaining its status as the best club on campus. I have known Matt for a couple years, a friendship that began at sectionals when we were on the same team and I first noticed incredible forehand crosscourt slapshot winners coming off his racket.

I would like to thank everyone that has made my tennis club experience incredible, from all the clean winner feeders, to past and current members and officers, to the USTA TOC program and our advisor Vicki. Y'all have made this an amazing 3 1/2 years. Thank you!

And remember always hit the tweener.

-Brent Hametner

Another Year In The Books

Howdy y'all!!

If you weren't there, tonight was our last practice of the year and y'all will all be excited for the promo video that will be coming out this fall.  I happen to make one guest appearance that I think y'all will like.

Anywho, that's that for this year of Texas A&M Tennis Club.  We DID IT BIG as always.  We won Texas Sectionals by beating Texas Tech in the final.  Think about it, that means were the best club in the state!  And we have now won 8 of the 9 Texas Sectionals tournaments that have been played.  We made yet another showing at the National Campus Championships, and had a strong performance.  We were unable to bring home a national championship, but it's nothing to hold our heads down about.  We had a lot of success in the Regional tournaments as well.  We are the best club in Texas, but we also have the most talent all the way from Team 1 to Team 8.  We won all but one draw at the College Station Regional, the Houston Regional, and even Sectionals.  A&M definitely took home more Championship shirts than any other club.

As for me, I've been proud to serve as your club president for this past year.  It's been a lot of hard work, but I feel as though I DID IT BIG too and made a positive impact on the club as we go into the future.  I've enjoyed getting to know all of you over the past four years because y'all are what makes tennis club as fun as it is.  I always looked forward to Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons when I could go hang out with y'all and play the best sport in the world.

As we move forward, I know the club will be well taken care of with Brent Hametner serving as your president for this fall.  I have known Brent since middle school (and actually played doubles with him since then as well) and I'm positive that he is more than capable of handling the position.  Matt Hillestad, Sarah Theriault, and Michael Martin are also more than qualified to serve as your exceutive officers for the coming year.

Well, that's about it.  I've had a ton of fun over the last four years, and I don't think I would've done it any other way.  Even though I'm graduating, I don't think you've seen the last of me because I've found out that there are alumni tournaments I can sign up for, so you might see me around this fall.

Best of luck on the rest of y'alls finals this semester, and I hope y'all come out this fall when club starts up again!!

Thanks and gig 'em Texas A&M Tennis Club!!

Promo Video / Last Practice Tomorrow

Howdy everyone!

I hope everyone is having a great dead week so far and is prepping hard for your final exams. Tomorrow will be our last practice at the normal time and place except one thing is different. Bring out your inner Denzel Washington/Angelina Jolie because we will be shooting our annual PROMO video for next year!!!!!!!! We need everybody we can get to come out and be apart of the video that hundreds of people will see!

Also, with this email, I have a bit of bad news and a bit of good news. Generally people prefer the bad news first so here it is:

Bad News

This will be my last email I write to you as secretary for this year. It has been an incredible year, and I have enjoyed relaying all the exciting information from tennis club to you. I hope the emails have been bearable and at least slightly interesting.

Good News

I am ecstatic about serving as your president for next year, and I can already tell that it will be an amazing year of tennis club. Although I will be serving for only the fall semester, I will do everything I can to help the club continue to grow and find ways to make this already great club even better.

That's all for now. Make sure to come out to shoot the PROMO VIDEO tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And remember...always hit the tweener.

Spring President/Non-Executive Officers

Howdy y'all!

Thank you to everyone that came out to broomball this past Wednesday! It was a ton o' fun, and hopefully everyone has recovered from all the kodak-moment wipeouts. In case you could not make it and would like to come to another tennis club social, we will be sliding down Mt. Aggie next Sunday April 29th at 4pm. Trust me, you want to come to this.

I would like to congratulate Matt Hillestad for winning the election for spring president. As you know, Matt will serve as Vice President in the fall meaning there will be a void for this position in the spring. This situation will be handled in the coming days.

I would also like to congratulate the following people for being selected to serve as tennis club officers for the 2012-2013 school year:

Competition
Alex Tajonar
Laura Pelaez

Social
Erik Linde
Wadih Salem

Fundraising
Aurash Behroozi
John Pickren

Recruitment
Rudy Contreras

Historian
Kelly Bucholz

These people have demonstrated great leadership ability, and I trust that they will play a pivotal role in shaping tennis club to be the best it can be next year.

That's all for now. Make sure to come out to Mt. Aggie next week!!!!

Broomball/LAST DAY TO VOTE!!!!

Howdy y'all!!

Broomball is tomorrow night at 10 PM at the Arctic Wolf Ice Rink on Holleman Dr.  In case you don't know what broomball is, it's a bunch of us running around on the ice with our shoes on using brooms to hit a ball into a hockey net.  It's pure awesomeness.  I started two-a-days practicing for it last week, and I'm assuming the rest of y'all did too so we should be on the same level tomorrow.  The event will take a little over an hour, so you'll get home with plenty of time to study/go to bed/whatever.  And this event will replace practice, so instead of going to the courts, just go to the ice rink at 10 PM.

We are going to Mt. Aggie on April 29th!!  If y'all ever wondered what that big mound next to the courts is, now is your chance to figure out that it's a sledding hill that turns almost adult college kids into young children again.  It's used for skiing classes, but for us they'll just get the astroturf hill wet so that it's a giant glorified slip-n-slide.  As soon as we're done with Broomball tomorrow, two-a-days will start for Mt. Aggie.

Today is the last day to vote for the spring 2013 semester president, so doooo itttt tooooddddaaayyyyy!!!!  Reply to TAMU10SELECTION@GMAIL.COM by 7 PM tonight!!!

Last Chance to Include Your Name in Officer Elections

Hey y'all, here is the info one more time regarding putting your name in for officer elections.  Also, thanks to everyone who was able to participate in Big Event yesterday!  We did it BIG and I think we were actually able to help someone who needed it.  Anywho, here is the info one more time:

It's that time again to elect the officers that will be leading club for next year!! Here's how it breaks down:

There are 4 executive officers elected by club members via email: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary
There are 5 non executive officers appointed by the executive officers: Competition, Fundraising, Social, Historian, Recruitment

Officer duties can be seen here:
https://docs.google.com/View?id=d33jckr_29dx62hxdb&pli=1

Being an officer is a rewarding experience that will further yourself and the club that you love so much. It is a lot of fun, but please be prepared to follow through with the duties that you are assigned in the officer duties link above. If y'all have any additional questions about the officer positions and what they do, please contact a current officer and ask.

To include your name on the ballot for the executive officer elections or include your name on the list of potential non exec officer appointees, reply to TAMU10SELECTION@GMAIL.COM by MONDAY, MARCH 26th at 7 PM with the following information:

NAME:
EXECUTIVE OFFICER POSITION:
NONEXECUTIVE OFFICER POSITION:
PHONE NUMBER:
EMAIL:
PARAGRAPH PERSUADING MEMBERS WHY THEY SHOULD ELECT YOU AS AN EXECUTIVE OFFICER: (Only if you are running for an executive officer position)

If you are running for an executive officer position, include a non executive officer position as well so that if you are not elected, you can still be appointed. If you only wish to run for a non executive officer position, just don't put anything down for executive officer position.

Please remember to reply to TAMU10SELECTION@GMAIL.COM by MONDAY, MARCH 26th at 7 PM. That's a little under a week from now!!! After that, the actual elections will begin.

I hope a lot of y'all are excited to be officers in the upcoming elections, and good luck to all of you who run.
On a side note, those of you that signed up for Big Event will be getting an email regarding where to be and when within the next couple of days.

Post-Sectionals / No Practice Wednesday

Howdy y'all!

I want to thank everyone who came out to sectionals; everyone played great, and it was a lot of fun. Here is a recap:

  • Congratulations to Team Do It Big for beating Texas Tech in the finals and winning the entire tournament for the 2nd straight year and the 4th time in the last 5 years to continue Texas A&M's tennis club dominance. They will now be playing in North Carolina next month for the national championship.
  • Congratulations to Team AggSwagg for winning the silver bracket
  • Congratulations to Team Never Say Never for winning the copper bracket
I would also like to give a shout out to Team Frickin' David for making this a memorable sectionals I will never forget. We definitely BTHO a colossal sundae, car navigation, and red lights. We were also fortunate enough to have the person whom our team is named after make an appearance for the weekend.

In order to allow us to rest from sectionals, we will NOT be having practice this Wednesday nor both the Sundays of spring break. Practices will resume at their normally scheduled times on March 21.

Don't forget that for the remainder of the semester tennis club will be participating in Big Event as well as having some socials.

That's all for now! Thank you once again to everyone for making this the best sectionals yet!

And remember...always hit the tweener.
